Bigotry at Christmas time????

I have seen variations of the following post floating around facebook lately and honestly it makes me ill.

"They tell us we can't say Merry Christmas now we have to say Happy Holidays. We can't call it a Christmas tree, it's now called a Holiday tree?? , because it might offend someone? If u don't like our ''American/Canadian Customs'' and if it offends u so much then LEAVE!!!! They are called customs We Have Our Traditions!! If you agree with this please post this as your status..

Let's begin with the first line. Who the hell is forcing you to say Happy Holidays? No one. I've said Merry Christmas to Jewish, Muslim, Atheists, Agnostics and not a single person has been offended. I am however offended by this post. You are wishing someone happiness during the holiday season. That is all. No one is asking you to cater to their particular religious beliefs. But in America we tolerate them. Let's remind ourselves again what America was built on: Freedom of religion. In America you can worship a duck as your god and no one has the right to tell you you're wrong. You could worship the lint that lives in your pocket and there is nothing wrong with that. It may be weird and odd but in America we accept and tolerate the weird and odd. If that offends you then maybe you should think of relocating.

The second line. "we call it a Christmas tree." Would it kill you to know that we picked up the tree thing from Germany!! (The Christmas tree is associated with St Boniface and the German town of Geismar. Sometime in St Boniface's lifetime he cut down the tree of Thor in order to disprove the legitimacy of the Norse gods to the local German tribe. St. Boniface saw a fir tree growing in the roots of the old oak. Taking this as a sign of the Christian faith, he said "...let Christ be at the center of your households..." using the fir tree as a symbol of Christianity.) *The paragraph in parenthesis is copied from Wikipedia, not my favorite reference but it is accurate on this subject. So sorry to tell you but the Christmas tree is NOT an American tradition. And who would be offended by calling it a Christmas tree? Jewish people (for the most part) don't have decorated trees in their house so why would they care if it's called a Christmas tree or a holiday tree. This is the first I've heard of this holiday tree business and I guarantee who ever created the post created this bullshit myth about being forced to call it a 'holiday tree' to further prove their so-called point.

Did your mama beat you with the bigot stick? The most basic knowledge of Christmas is that it is a CHRISTIAN holiday NOT American or Canadian. This is a holiday celebrated worldwide by some but not all people. Are we living in Nazi Germany all of a sudden? Should all the Jews and Muslims leave because they don't agree with Christmas? Would you prefer to put a badge on every person that has a different religion from you... or would that be too much like how Hitler forced the Jews to identify themselves? Copying and re-posting the above message to your friends however clearly identifies you. You wear the badge of an intolerant bigot if you repost that nauseating crap.

I don't care if anyone changes their minds or removes the post. It WOULD be nice if people would actually read things before copying and pasting them but I realize that's probably too much work. Most of these people will never learn anyway. It's a waste of breath. However, I did learn one thing out of all of this. The rant about others being offended leads me to believe that it is YOU who is offended. You are offended by any religion or idea other than yours (let's be honest. Do you even go to church? Pray? Trust in God? Didn't think so Mr./ Mrs. Holier than thou)You are probably offended by your neighborhood Muslim as well. Offended by Mexicans, Portuguese, Italians, Black people and of course Jewish people?? I won't rail on any longer about your stupidity because I have one quality that you will never be capable of. Tolerance. I live in America. I accept people for who they are even if they are unbelievable douchebags such as yourself. You are intolerant and close-minded. I like being tolerant and open-minded.

Thoughts on Veterans Day

My husband is a Veteran of the US Army and served in Operation Desert Shield as well as Operation Desert Storm. Where is he on Veterans Day? Working his ass off for a 13 hr shift. My son who is 7 and obviously not even old enough for the draft is off from school. Government offices are shut down for the day in remembrance. Postal workers are enjoying a nice day off from their daily grind. Listen, unless you are a Veteran you should be at work. Unless you are someone who is actually honoring a Veteran today, go to work. This day is the one day a year that we give thanks to our heroes and she-roes but the wrong people have the luxury of not going to work. Veterans should be honored every single day of their lives. But I'll come back to that...

If you are the spouse, child or direct family member of an active, retired or fallen Veteran and you are actually participating in honoring said Veteran you deserve a day off to do so. If you are a Veteran you should be allowed the day off to spend with your family, or honoring your brothers and sisters who served, or sitting back and relaxing BUT this day off should come with pay. Yes, a paid day off to spend however you see fit as a thank you from your country.

If you have never served in the military and don't plan on participating in honoring Veterans, then you should be at work. I don't care if you work in a building that will be shut down for the day, find something productive to do with your day off. Visit a cemetery a place flowers on the grave of a soldier you never knew. Because that soldier gave the ultimate sacrifice for you and your freedom. That soldier gave the ultimate sacrifice so you could get a day off from work to sit around eating Cheetos in a bean bag chair while playing video games all day. That soldier gave the ultimate sacrifice so you have the freedom to pursue your happiness however inane that happiness may be. That soldier who gave the ultimate sacrifice deserves your appreciation.

And on a final note I will say Veterans Day is 365 days a year 24 hours a day 7 days a week. These men and women don't fight for us once a year, they fight every day. They deserve honor, respect, and appreciation every single day not just once a year.

Thank you to all of our military men and women who have served our country. My gratitude knows no bounds for you

Mother's Letter to Santa

Dear Santa,

I am not your biggest fan. You're the fat jolly bastard gets all the credit for all the stress I go through trying to make the perfect holiday for my kids and you can't even be bothered to get out of your pajamas. I have to go to the store and fight mobs of other pissy parents to get just the right presents. Then I get to stay up until 2-3am wrapping only to be woken up 2 hours later to my kids asking if Santa came. Well fuck you Santa. You don't even exist and I'm giving all the credit to you? Not to mention that by perpetuating this sham I'm lying to my children and further endorsing the bullshit you represent. When I was a kid I was completely destroyed to find out you weren't real. I love my children and I'm not looking forward to the day your magical merriness is revealed as falsified crap. You know you have a slight pedophilia about you too right? I mean really... always watching and sneaking into childrens' homes at night? You ought to have your picture hung up at all police stations and post offices you freak. Elves and reindeer running around slaving after your fat ass. In all the lore surrounding this asinine legend of Santa never once does it mention you giving back to them. You have moms and dads running around to preserve this lie we've had to create because we can't get around it. Your stupid rosy cheeks are plastered all over every commercial, mall decoration, and Christmas card so there's no avoiding you. I think you're an evil man. Seriously, remember Jesus? It's supposed to be a day of celebrating his birth but yet some overweight holly jolly assclown is stealing all the glory. Well whatever man. I guess I have to keep this vicious circle up for a couple more years until some bratty kid tells my children you aren't real. Then I get to mend their broken little hearts and admit I've lied for the first part of their lives. In closing I'd like you to forward this on to the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny because they're next on my shit list.
